Design Inspiration

MUXE NEW YORK was established in 2017 by Designer Kadeem Alphanso Fyffe with the intent of creating thought-provoking unisex garments that comment on gender, politics, and culture.

The main inspiration for this label are the Muxes of the indigenous Zapotec culture of Oaxaca, which is not divided by the usual dichotomies: gay or straight, male or female. There's a commonly accepted third category of mixed gender — people called Muxes (said to derive from the 16th Century Spanish word for "woman", mujer). Some are men who live as women, or who identify beyond a single gender.
It is in this spirit that MUXE NEW YORK was born - a brand that celebrates gender-fluidity.
